Small, Urban, Raised Bed Garden plus Containers in Panama City, FL
I've been gardening for over 6 years in North Florida, zone 8b (or 9, depending on who's map you look at!). I've grown pretty much anything I can get my hands on, but my true love is starting my summer veggie garden. There is a certain aspect of wabi-sabi to my gardening habits and my gardens, from raised beds to containers. The idea of being able to find beauty in imperfection, and meaning from the natural world allows me to slow down and appreciate my garden for what it is, and what I make it. That's the nice thing about my garden. It's always there for me, silently progressing along at its own pace, providing something new to discover. It never speaks a word of anger, nor encouragement, but patiently lends itself to experimentation and flexibility. Successes are bountiful, failures are barren, and everything teaches me a lesson. I'm grateful for my garden. It tests all of my senses and at the same time says, "Relax, you can't mess up". Plan to see a lot of wabi-sabi from me, because I'm not a gardener of perfectionism. I'm always experimenting, or forgetting, smelling the flowers, or biting into a juicy tomato in the middle of the garden. :)
